Adobe Creative Suite 4 Enterprise Manual Deployment Guide
Create a single installer
If the installer spans in multiple discs, create a single installer.
- Create a folder on your hard disk.
- Insert Disc 1, and copy all the contents of Disc 1 into the folder that you created.
- Insert Disc 2, open the Payloads folder, and copy all its content.
- Open the Payloads folder of the folder on your hard disk, and paste the copied content. If you get a message to overwrite the existing files, click Yes.
- Open the Extension folder of Disc 2, if it exists, and copy all its content.
- Open the Extension folder of the folder on your hard disk, and paste the copied content. If you get a message to overwrite the existing files, click Yes.
- Repeat steps 3–6 for the remaining discs.
The new folder on your hard disk is the single installer and is used to create a package.
Choose Creative Suite 4 components for installation and uninstallation
The record mode automates the creation of the install.xml and remove.xml files that allows selection of Creative Suite 4 components. To record the installation options, run one of the following commands:
- On Windows
<setup.exe path in quotes> –record=1 - On Mac
sudo <setup.app path in quotes>/Contents/MacOS/Setup –record=1
This command launches the installer and displays the installation options. Enter the serial number, select the products to install, and select the installation location (see “Shared technology installers” on page 14). Click the Install button to save the installation options and create the installation XML files. The following two files are created:
- Adobe Creative Suite 4 <Product Name>.install.xml
- Adobe Creative Suite 4 <Product Name>.remove.xml
Note: If you create the XML files in Microsoft Vista and use these files to deploy Creative Suite 4 on Microsoft XP, the shortcut to Creative Suite 4 in the Start menu is not added.
The default location of these files is [System Drive]:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\ (Windows) and /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Installers/ (Mac). Rename the files to install.xml and remove.xml, and copy to the Creative Suite 4 product setup directory. The setup directory is the root directory of the installer.
Note: If you edit and save the XML file, ensure that you save it in the UTF-8 encoding format.
