Motor Oil Change Guide

Motor Oil Change Guide

  • Place the bike on the center stand (not the kick stand)
  • The Drain Plug and the Dipstick for the motor oil are located on the right side of the bike.
  • Place a drain pan under the Drain Plug and remove the plug with a 17mm socket or wrench.
  • A small spring and Screen Type Oil Filter will also pop out. Place these two items off to the side and wash them clean by flushing them with new 10W-40 motor oil.
(If you keep the dipstick out of the motor, it will drain the oil faster)
  • Let the motor oil drain until only a few drops fall every few seconds. Put the cleaned Oil Filter and the spring back into the engine as shown to the left. If done incorrectly, the filter will not be efficient in collecting dirt and sludge from the engine.

AMSOIL Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Change Procedures

ISSUES:

Many quick lube oil change companies are using flushing machines to change the automatic transmission fluid. Using flushing machines does not address the need for cleaning the sediment in the transmission pan, cleaning the magnet inside the transmission pan, or changing the transmission oil filter.

TECHNICAL DISCUSSION:

Flushing machines are used to provide a quick transmission fluid change, however they do not address transmission pan cleanliness or filter changes. By taking the transmission pan off, sediment in the pan as well as the magnet can be cleaned, and the fluid filter can be changed. Manufacturers recommend a filter change with the oil change, and recommend against the use of flushing machines due to possible fluid contamination from pan sediment.

RECOMMENDATION:

AMSOIL recommends transmission fluid and filter changes based on the following 14 steps. For a transmission pan and filter oil change follow steps 1 through 12 and 14, for a complete system flush and filter change follow steps 1 through 14.

Alfa Romeo 147 Engine Oil Change Guide

This guide will help you to change the oil on Alfa Romeo 147. Photos used in this guide are from TS version, but JTD should be similar as well as other Alfas (156, GT,….)

I was hesitating if I should make a guide for such a simple and routine task but as I have seen a lot of my friends to put the car for this job to a service and others were asking me to change the oil for them. That’s why I thought a guide like this may be useful for someone willing to start to do same basic maintenance tasks by himself.

Quick guide (for advanced alfisti):

  1. Get new engine oil, oil filter and preferably oil sump plug washer.
  2. Go for a drive to heat up the oil (10km or more).
  3. Lift the bonnet and unscrew the oil filler cap.
  4. Lift the car.

6.0L DIT Power Stroke Diesel Engine Oil Change Guide

  1. Make sure the vehicle is on level ground.
  2. Turn the engine off and wait a few minutes for the oil to drain into the oil pan.
  3. Set the parking brake and ensure the gearshift is securely latched in P (Park) (automatic transmission) or 1st (First gear) (manual transmission).
Important: To avoid engine damage, change the oil filter before draining the oil pan. This allows dirty oil in the filter housing to drain back into the oil pan.
  4. Loosen the oil filter cap by using a 36mm socket and a ratchet (location #1)
NOTE: Unscrewing the cap opens the oil filter drain and drains the oil from the oil filter housing into the crankcase.
  5. Remove the cap with the oil filter and O-ring attached. Turn the cap and filter upside down so as not to drip oil.
