Congratulations on purchasing a MacBook Air. Your MacBook Air is streamlined for portability and a completely wireless experience. Read this chapter for help getting started setting up and using your MacBook Air.

If you know you will primarily be downloading applications and content from the Internet and not migrating information from another Mac, you can follow the basic instructions to set up your MacBook Air quickly.

If you want to migrate information from another Mac or get content from CDs or DVDs onto your MacBook Air, you can identify one or more Mac or Windows computers to partner with your MacBook Air.

Apple Magic Trackpad User Guide

Your wireless Apple Magic Trackpad uses Bluetooth® technology to connect to your Mac and comes with two AA batteries installed.
Read these instructions to update your software, learn about the indicator light, pair and use your trackpad, and replace the batteries.

Updating Your Software
To use your Apple Magic Trackpad and all its features, update your Mac to Mac OS X version 10.6.4 or later, and then install the latest trackpad software.
To update to the latest version of Mac OS X, choose Apple > Software Update from the menu bar and follow the onscreen instructions.
When installation is complete and you restart your Mac, use Software Update again to make sure all available updates are installed.

About the Indicator Light
The indicator light displays the status of your Apple Magic Trackpad and the batteries.

  • When you first turn on your trackpad, the indicator light glows steadily for 2 to 3 seconds, indicating the batteries are good.

Setting Up Your MacBook Pro

Your MacBook Pro is designed so that you can set it up quickly and start using it right away. The following pages take you through the setup process, including these tasks:

Step 1: Plug In the Apple MagSafe Power Adapter

If there is protective film around the power adapter, remove it before setting up your MacBook Pro.

Insert the AC plug of your power adapter into a power outlet and the power adapter plug into the MacBook Pro power adapter port. As you get close to the port, you’ll feel a magnetic pull drawing in the power adapter plug.

iMac User Guide

Your iMac is designed so that you can easily set it up and start using it right away. If you’ve never used an iMac or are new to Mac computers, read this chapter for instructions about getting started.

Important:
Read all the installation instructions and the safety information starting on page 62 before you plug your iMac into a power outlet.
