Facebook Pages Product Guide

Overview
A Facebook Page is a customizable presence for an organization, product, or public personality to join the conversation with Facebook users. The Page focuses on the stream of content posted by the Page administrators.

By leveraging the real connections between friends on Facebook, a Page lets Fans become brand advocates. Posts by the Page will start to appear in News Feed, giving Pages a stronger voice to reach their Fans.

In addition, Pages now have the flexibility of multiple customizable tabs previously exclusive to user profiles.

Key New Features and Opportunities
Easier Publishing – Enhanced Wall
The Page’s Wall tab will enjoy the same rich, multi-media functionality as the Wall tab on a user Profile. The Wall is a central location for recent information posted by you and about you. It’s where you keep your up-to-date content, and where Fans can contribute.

How to Protect Your Privacy on Facebook

When you sign up as a user of Facebook, the default settings allow all other Facebook users to find you in searches. However, only those you have confirmed as friends or who share a network with you have access to your full profile. By default, your name and thumbnail profile picture can also be found on public search engines. Facebook has selected these settings based on what it believes most users want, but you can always change them to restrict access to your information, as you see fit. Therefore, you can change the default settings to restrict access to your profile. Under the current setting, only your friends, their friends, and the people on your networks can see your profile. If you download Facebook Platform third-party applications into your profile, some of your information may be shared (see section on “Applications” below). It is important to explore these default settings, to adjust the privacy settings to those with which you are comfortable.

Social Networking Guide for IT Managers

Sites like Facebook, MySpace and Bebo help friends stay in touch while LinkedIn and Plaxo mainly connect business users. They are very popular but present new challenges to IT managers.

They seem to have come out of nowhere. For example, Facebook had 1m active users in the UK in February 2007. Today, nine months later, it has 7m users1. This extraordinary growth is part of the problem. Companies risk being caught off guard.

Consider the Risks

Broken privacy and identity theft.
Some services also allow third parties to run applications that have access to users profile. This is a potential privacy risk. People publish a wealth of personal information in their profiles. This makes social networking sites a happy hunting ground for identity thieves and conmen.

Cyber-slacking.
Social networking sites can be addictive and time-consuming. Cyber-slacking is a genuine concern.

The guidelines outline the legal implications of blogging about the company and also include recommended best practices to consider when posting about Yahoo!.

LEGAL PARAMETERS:
The following two bullets cover your legal responsibilities and non-disclosure obligations. Failure to abide by these two guidelines can result in serious ramifications for individual bloggers and/or individuals who post on the blogs of others.
