The Quick Start Guide for Collaborative Project Management

STARTING MERLIN SERVER
Start the Merlin Server by dragging the slider from “Off“ to “On“. The Server will then automatically publish all projects from the Shared Folder. The active services are indicated with a glowing green light. Merlin Server is now running.

FIX PERMISSIONS
It can be, that there was an issue copying the projects to the Shared Folder. For that reason the permissions have to be fixed. The privileges for the shared project files can be fixed with a click on the option “Fix Permissions…”, which can be found in the Merlin Server pane. The project files can not be used with the server, as long as the permissions are not fixed.

ACL: ACCESS CONTROL LIST
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and 10.5 Leopard use Access Control Lists by default. These lists control all permissions to the system. Merlin Server needs active ACLs in order to function properly.

Pregnancy Planning Guide

Gestational calendar wheels have traditionally been used by maternity caregivers to predict likely due dates and calculate patients’ current gestational stage. The idea for the Pregnancy Planning Guide arose in 1999 from evaluation of the Maternity Care Calendar and Guidelines.1,2 The Calendar was developed to assist maternity caregivers in following the course of each patient’s pregnancy using a modified gestational wheel and an evidence-based checklist summarizing recommended interventions for prenatal care.

During evaluation of the Calendar, pregnant women were asked how they thought it could be improved. These women repeatedly suggested that they would find a similar rotational calendar useful for planning pregnancy. As a result, we adapted the format of the Calendar to one more appropriate for planning pregnancy. Searches of print material and the Internet failed to turn up a pregnancy planner that combined evidence-based information with a visually appealing and concise way of planning and following pregnancies.

An Overview of the Scala Programming Language

Abstract
Scala fuses object-oriented and functional programming in a statically typed programming language. It is aimed at the construction of components and component systems. This paper gives an overview of the Scala language for readers who are familar with programming methods and programming language design.

Introduction
True component systems have been an elusive goal of the software industry. Ideally, software should be assembled from libraries of pre-written components, just as hardware is assembled from pre-fabricated chips. In reality, large parts of software applications are written from scratch, so that software production is still more a craft than an industry.

Components in this sense are simply software parts which are used in some way by larger parts or whole applications. Components can take many forms; they can be modules, classes, libraries, frameworks, processes, or web services. Their size might range from a couple of lines to hundreds of thousands of lines. They might be linked with other components by a variety of mechanisms, such as aggregation, parameterization, inheritance, remote invocation, or message
passing.
