Digital Photography Tips

Taking photographs of animals
Animal photography is challenging because it’s difficult to get your subjects to do what you’d like them to do. Sure, a well-trained dog is more likely to sit or stay than your average hamster, but even Lassie doesn’t follow directions as well as your average human. But by following just a few helpful tips, you can take animal photographs that say a lot more about your pet than, “Gosh, he’s sure blurry!”

Get ready to say cheese
A lot of animals, whether they are house pets or barnyard creatures, don’t like cameras. Perhaps it’s something to do with the size or the shape of the camera that frightens many animals. Add in the loud click of a shutter and the bright light of a flash, and you can seriously spook some animals. The end result is a blurry, out-of-focus shot.
Many household pets can be trained to get used to cameras. Let your pet sniff or smell the camera when you’re not using it, and give them special treats every time you take their picture.
He might be a cute cat, but this picture is blurry. This could have been eliminated with the use of the camera’s flash.

Managing Diabetes During Pregnancy

The percentage of family physicians in Canada who deliver babies has declined to a low of 17.6%; however, 53.9% continue to provide prenatal care to their patients.1 Despite extensive research on gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), there is still a lack of consensus regarding the benefit of treatment and even about the importance of GDM as a meaningful diagnosis.

The challenge for family physicians is to determine which investigations and treatments are required for their patients, given current understanding of GDM. Although patients with diabetes during pregnancy are frequently managed in multidisciplinary clinics, such services are not universally available. As a result, many family physicians need to know how to provide comprehensive care for these women, including insulin therapy and intrapartum care.

The OpenGL ES 2.0 Programming Guide

Porting the Sample Code to the iPhone
The process of porting the sample code from the book to the iPhone highlights some of the unique features of the iPhone. In particular, some of the unique features of the development environment include:

  • The use of Objective C
  • The process of creating an EGL rendering context using the EAGLContext.
  • Detection of device capabilities and creating an OpenGL ES 2.0 context
  • The use of a framebuffer object as the primary rendering surface

Once you have created and setup a rendering context, programming with OpenGL ES 2.0 on the iPhone is identical to any other platform. However, there are some unique aspects of the platform that are worth understanding before jumping into the code.

Cheating in Networked Computer Games

ABSTRACT
The increasing popularity of Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOG) – games involving thousands of players participating simultaneously in a single virtual world – has Client/Server (C/S) architectures. Researchers are proposing Peerhighlighted the scalability bottlenecks present in centralised to-Peer (P2P) architectures as a scalable alternative to C/S; however, P2P is more vulnerable to cheating as it decentralises the game state and logic to un-trusted peer machines, rather than using trusted centralised servers. Cheating is a major concern for online games, as a minority of cheaters can potentially ruin the game for all players. In this paper we present a review and classification of known cheats, and provide real-world examples where possible. Further, we discuss counter measures used by C/S architectures to prevent cheating. Finally, we discuss several P2P architectures designed to prevent cheating, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses.

3CX Phone System for Windows Manual

What is the 3CX VOIP client?

The 3CX VOIP Client is a small Windows application that allows you to make and receive calls via your desktop phone or using a headset connected directly to your computer. You can see the extension numbers of other users and whether they are available to take calls. Important is that you can use the 3CX VOIP client without having to use the head-set – you can continue to use your desk based phone if you prefer. The 3CX VOIP client ships with all editions of 3CX Phone System, including the Free edition. However, in the Small Business, Pro and Enterprise editions, the 3CX VOIP client allows you to see the presence of other users on the phone system. In the FREE edition, other extensions appear greyed out.

Guidelines for Preparing Powerpoint Presentations

Speaker ready room and practice sessions. Student speakers should plan to rehearse and test equipment prior to the formal presentation. The location and schedule for rehearsals will be announced at the National symposium. PC-based computers, with a CD-Rom and floppy drive, will be in each session room configured with Microsoft 2000 Powerpoint and Adobe Acrobat. The use of Macintosh computers or use of other software requires students to bring their own equipment.

Steps to ensure your success

  1. When building your presentation, make sure you include any external files utilized in the same folder as your presentation. When creating your media for transportation copy the entire folder to the disk. To ensure the success of your presentation, remember to make a backup copy of your files and transport that media in a separate piece of luggage. Please also be reminded to bring back-up overheads in the event of equipment or software problems. If you have inserted movies into your Powerpoint presentation, we will require that you check your presentation in the Speaker Ready Room.
