The Fall Vegetable Garden

Fall is an excellent time to grow many vegetable crops. During this season the gardener can take advantage of cooler temperatures and more plentiful moisture. Many spring-planted crops such as lettuce and spinach tend to bolt, or produce seed, and become bitter in response to the long, hot summer days. Fall gardening helps extend your gardening season so that you can continue to harvest produce after earlier crops have faded.

Planting – Remove all previous crop residues and any weed growth. Completely prepare the soil by rototilling or spading 6-8 inches deep. If spring crops were heavily fertilized, then no additional fertilization may be needed. However, 1-2 pounds of a general analysis fertilizer, such as 12-12-12, may be applied per 100 square feet of bed area. Be sure to thoroughly mix the fertilizer with the soil. Some gardeners prefer to sidedress the plants with 1 pound of 10-10- 10 per 25-30 feet of row placed 6-12 inches from the plants. Apply the sidedressing 2-3 weeks after germination if plants appear to be growing slowly.

Models of Internet Worm Defense

Content Filtering
We consider two schemes analyzed by Moore et al. “Requirements for Containing Self-Propagating Code”
Content filtering—Idea is that worm packets look a lot alike. One can find
signatures based on hashes of packet content to recognize I’m told that actual commercial products exist that do this Our model : after a delay T0, worm scans are recognized by packet content.
Filters at local network boundaries protect those networks. Fraction fopen of hosts have “open path” to attack still.
Phase I – the worm spreads before detection.
Phase II – the susceptible population drops from s(T0) to
(1 – fopen) × s(T0), dynamics otherwise are the same.

Address Blacklisting
Address Blacklisting—likely infected hosts are added to blacklists. Fraction fopen hosts remain unprotected.
Our model :
Detection delay T0 of infected host, detection framework started at time
D0
Phase I—original spreading dynamics
Phase II—At time D0 + T0 blacklisting takes effect. Split populations into
that which is covered by blacklisting (sp) and that which is unprotected
(su): At time D0 + T0:

MacBook Care and Handling Guide

Getting to know your Computer
The Start Up Process
Your MacBook is sitting in front of you. What do you do to get it up and running? First, let’s open it. The latch (figure 1) is magnetic. Simply pull up on the top case to open it up. The MacBook is hinged on the back. Adjust the screen to the best viewing angle but be careful not to open past the natural stopping point.

Now, turn it on. The power switch is located on the upper right of the keyboard (figure 2). Press it. You’ll hear the famous Apple “chime” which indicates the computer is starting up. It may take as long as a minute before you see the next screen, so don’t get impatient. If the computer was already turned on when you pushed the button, it will come up in a few seconds without the chime. You’ll see several different screens as your machine starts up.

Full Mouth Horse Dentistry

Reasons for dentistry:

  • Horses have hypsodont teeth which means that their teeth develop from a tooth bud to a set length and then grow no more. Unlike human teeth they have a large amount of reserve crown which is housed within the bones of the upper and lower jaws.
These teeth belonged to a 4 yr old and show the reserve crown that will last a life time.
  • Sharp enamel points on the inner edges of the lower check teeth and outer edges of the upper check teeth result in dis-comfort, especially in a bridled horse and lead to lacerations and abscesses along the cheeks and tongue.
  • The teeth are designed to erupt at the same rate as they are worn. Problems arise from teeth that have no opposition as they hyper-erupt and become dominant so upsetting the balance within the mouth, causing dis-ruption to function and discomfort. These problems left unchecked, can cause some horrific consequences, even in relatively young horses. This photo was taken from an 8 year old miniature!
