Green Valentine Day

Wine
Depending on the wine you choose, it may have travelled long distances to get to your local liquor store and pesticides may also have been used during production.
Environmentally conscious wine:
To reduce the environmental impact, choose a local wine. Consult the Wines of Canada website for a list of wines available in your province. Buy organic wines; Wines of Canada also lists the organic options available in different provinces. If the selection of local wine is not to your liking, you can always purchase Fair Trade certified wine.
What about wine packaging?
An interesting debate on wine packaging is currently taking place… On one hand, bag-in-box wine seems to be the best choice since the packaging takes less energy to produce and transport which results in a much smaller carbon footprint. On the other hand, end-of-life recycling options for bottled wine seem to be the better of the two. When in doubt, buy local!

Digital Camera Technology Untangled

Anyone mention optics?
Just about all my best photos have come out of a 6mp Nikon D40. Yes, 6 megapixels is more than enough for great photos if they’re fat and happy pixels. You could double the pixel count and not see the difference. You might see one if you quadruple it – Sony’s new Alpha 900 has a 24mp sensor. Canon’s top model offers 21mp. Both cost thousands of dollars.

More pixels make more work
If the advantages of extra pixels are dubious, their drawbacks are obvious when loading photos on a PC: the files are very large and slow to process. If you’re a dead keen amateur, you may find a major PC hardware upgrade necessary. Big files also take up lots of space on hard drives, with 12mp .jpg shots generating 5-6 mb files. Hard drive capacity is cheap these days but keeping these files backed-up takes time.

MIP 5000 VoIP Radio Console Quick Installation Guide

Step 1. Preparation

  1. Prepare the site before beginning the installation. See Chapter 2, “Site Preparation” in the MIP 5000 VoIP Radio Console Installation and Configuration Manual. Important: Make sure there is a network access port in each location where a MIP 5000 Gateway is to be installed. An additional port is recommended for use by service personnel.
  2. If required, install the electronics equipment shelves intended to hold the MIP 5000 Gateway units.
  3. Consult with the network administrator to determine whether the network uses static or dynamic IP addressing.
    • If static, IP addresses are used to identify gateways and consoles.
    • If dynamic, Host Names are used to identify gateways and consoles.
  4. Collect the MAC address of each MIP 5000 Gateway to be installed. Use a photocopy of the Discovery Form on the back of this guide to make a list that identifies which MIP 5000 Gateway is for which radio channel and what the MAC address is.
    • The MAC address (physical address) of each MIP 5000 Gateway appears on a label on the bottom of the unit.

Copies of the Wisconsin Administrative Code and the Statutes can be obtained from our Web site at oci.wi.gov or from the Department of Administration, Document Sales and Distribution, 202 South Thornton Avenue, Madison, WI 53702, telephone (608) 266-3358. The Wisconsin Insurance Laws are also available from NILS Publishing Company, 20675 Bahama Street, P. O. Box 2507, Chatsworth, CA 91311, or Document Sales and Distribution.
