Cure for the Common Hangover

It’s official…the day after has arrived and you’re sicker than you ever thought possible. What can you do about it? After thousands of years, we have searched in vain for a cure for hangovers. While there are enough concoctions to make your head spin (if it isn’t spinning already), only a few of them are helpful, and none of them truly cure the hangover.

The best cure is to prevent the hangover from happening. Here are a few tips.

  • Don’t go out on an empty stomach. Forget your New Years Resolution to diet for just one night. Snack on some carbohydrates before your night out, or grab a snack at the bar before your drinks arrive. The reason that food is so important is because it’ll sop up the alcohol so that it doesn’t all go directly into the bloodstream.

Ecologically Sound Lawn Care

Lawn Care: An Ecosystem Approach
Like forests or prairie grasslands, lawns are dynamic ecosystems: communities of plants, soil, and microbes; insects and earthworms and the birds that feed on them; and humans who mow, water, fertilize, and play on the lawn. The interactions of all these community members shape the dynamic equilibrium we see as a lawn. Understanding and working within the natural processes that shape the lawn and its soil community can yield a durable, beautiful lawn that is easier to care for. As it turns out, these ecologically sound methods will also help reduce water use, waste generation, and water pollution.

Why Make A Change?
The ecological approach to lawn care described in this report has several advantages, including:

  • Reduced mowing time and fertilizer needs, and improved turf color, quality, and density.
  • Enhanced resistance to diseases and weed invasion.
  • Improved nutrient availability, and less soil compaction, acidification, and thatch buildup.

Managing Diabetes During Pregnancy

The percentage of family physicians in Canada who deliver babies has declined to a low of 17.6%; however, 53.9% continue to provide prenatal care to their patients.1 Despite extensive research on gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), there is still a lack of consensus regarding the benefit of treatment and even about the importance of GDM as a meaningful diagnosis.

The challenge for family physicians is to determine which investigations and treatments are required for their patients, given current understanding of GDM. Although patients with diabetes during pregnancy are frequently managed in multidisciplinary clinics, such services are not universally available. As a result, many family physicians need to know how to provide comprehensive care for these women, including insulin therapy and intrapartum care.

Bondstrand M80 Pipe Shaver Guide

Introduction

The M80 pipe shaver is designed to prepare Quick-Lock spigot ends on Bondstrand pipe as described in the Bondstrand Assembly Instructions, FP170. Pipe is shipped from the factory with prepared spigot ends, but pipe cut to length on the jobsite must be provided with a new spigot end before assembly. Spigot ends can be prepared on 10 through 16-inch pipe of any Bondstrand series with the Quick-Lock joint using the M80 tool. The M80 tool can also be used to shave 8-inch Quick-Lock spigots and is to be preferred to the B-1 tool when preparing 8-inch Bondstrand Series 2000M and 7000M marine pipe that have greater wall thicknesses than Bondstrand industrial pipe.
