Prepare

Before you start. Please ensure that you have at least one computer with a spare USB 2.0 port. Below is a list of software and requirements you should also prepare: At least one application that enables you to speak over the internet for free.

Connections

Unpack the USB VoIP Dialpad, connect the USB cable to your computer and to the rear of the USB VoIP Dialpad. Now power on your computer. With Windows 2000 and Windows XP, the Drivers will automatically be located and installed. The keypad will light up once the Dialpad is configured correctly. 2 sets of switchable connectors have been provided, one for the supplied headset, the other for desktop speakers and mic; both are interchangeable. Speaker connector is green, Mic connector is pink. The Audio A-B switch simply switches audio in and out to A or B connector, great for switching between private conversation or conference. USB 2.0 High Speed ports have been provided so you can plug in all your peripherals. No need to purchase an additional USB hub!

fringTM is a mobile internet service & community that enables you to access & interact with your social networks on-the-go, including make free calls, live chat and seeing your contacts online presence with all your fring, Skype®, MSN® Messenger, Google TalkTM, ICQ, SIP, Twitter, Yahoo!TM and AIM®* friends using your handsets internet connection rather than costly cellular airtime minutes. I. General

WebMessenger for Skype supports messaging, presence and phone calls from / to Skype users, available to the WebMessenger mobile IM clients. The diagram above shows the call control and audio streams handling. WebMessenger for Skype connects the WMP client with the Skype network. You can exchange messages, presence and make phone calls to Skype buddies from your mobile telephone. The information from Skype is passing through the WMP server and the WMP client can see the Skype buddies as one of the public instant messaging networks.

II. Prerequisites

1. Skype client application installed on your PC.
2. SkypeOut account for phone calls.
3. WebMessenger for Skype.
4. WebMessenger mobile client with Skype support.
5. A valid WMP user account with Skype proxy account.

III. WebMessenger for Skype Settings

1. Introduction

The DPH-50U USB Phone Adapter for SKYPE is an exciting new device that let’s you make and receive SkypeTM calls using your standard telephone handset. After you follow the simple installation you will be able to do the following:

• Continue to make and receive regular calls as you normally do
• Make and receive SkypeTM calls using your standard telephone
• Forward SkypeTM calls to your mobile phone
• Make SkypeTM calls from your mobile phone even when you are away from your computer
• Switch between a SkypeTM call and a regular phone call

3. Requirements

In order to install the DPH-50U USB Phone Adapter for SKYPE you will need the following:

Installation

The following instructions will guide you to through the process of installing the Personal USB Gateway.

STEP 1: If SkypeTM is not already installed on your computer, visit http://www.skype.com and follow the instructions there to install SkypeTM. Verify that SkypeTM is working before installing the USB Gateway.

STEP 2: Insert the supplied CD-ROM into your PC CD-ROM drive. The installation should start automatically. If not, open the installation folder on the CD-ROM and double click on the setup.exe program as shown below. The other end of the USB cable must be connected to a USB port on your computer or to an AC Powered USB hub.

STEP 3: You would then see following screen if your Skype is already running. If not, start your Skype program. Refer to STEP 1 for how to download the Skype program. Choose the first option Allow this program to use Skype, and press OK. Following Dashboard screen should appear, showing Skype is connected.

CELLULAR PHONE:
Most people in Uganda now use mobile phones and are on the GSM network. Landline calls are more expensive are being used less and less. The main mobile phone companies in Uganda are MTN and UTL. MTN has wider upcountry coverage. However, if you will be in Tanzania or Kenya, you can use UTL. It is very useful to have a mobile phone while in Uganda. All you need to do is have a GSM phone and buy a Uganda MTN or UTL SIM card once you arrive. The SIM cards cost about 15,000-
20,000 Ush. Mobile GSM phones are also easily available for purchase in Kampala for around 100,000 Ush. Once you have the SIM card you just buy phone cards to add calling time. Learn to use SMS text messaging as that is the most popular and cheapest form of communication. Calling international from Uganda is extremely expensive, however, you will not be charged for incoming international calls.
