Sleeping

  • Sleep baby on back from birth, not tummy or side.
  • Sleep baby with face and head uncovered and free from bedding, pillows and toys.
  • Avoid exposing baby to tobacco smoke before birth and after.
  • Provide a safe sleeping environment with safe furniture and bedding – no quilts, doonas, duvets, pillows in cot etc.
  • Sleep baby in their own safe sleeping environment next to the parents’ bed for the first six to twelve months of life.
  • Although it’s a special moment cuddling your child, babies and children are still at risk when they’re asleep on their tummy whilst resting on an adults chest, especially if the adult falls asleep in an unsafe sleeping environment (eg couch, sofa).

BUILDING A STRONG FOUNDATION

Show Me the Next-Generation HDMI

Early versions of HDMI (version 1.2 and below) clocked their serial links at 165 MHz, giving the connection a total capacity of 4.95 Gbps. When the HDMI 1.3 specification was introduced in 2006, its optional 340 MHz system clock rate doubled the link’s maximum capacity to 10.2 Gbps. To put some perspective on this enormous bandwidth, it only takes 2.23 Gbps to support a 1080i, 8 bits/color HDTV display running at a 60 Hz frame refresh rate.

The HDMI serial data stream is segmented into packets that allow it to encapsulate nearly any digital media format including standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, multi-channel digital audio and control information on a single cable. Video data is always transmitted in an uncompressed format, complete with horizontal and vertical blanking intervals. The video blanking intervals (Data Island Periods) are used to transmit audio data, which can consist of any compressed, non-compressed, PCM, single or multi-channel formats and control information. The audio formats include the new DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD formats used by Blu-ray media players.

Wildflower Meadow Gardening

Selecting the Appropriate Meadow Species

A successful wildflower meadow is a complex, interactive plant community, not just a collection of individuals. Choose a mixture of native species that, over a period of time, will naturally sort themselves out; the species best adapted to the site will be the ones that thrive after the first few years. Inventory the site and its microhabitats, such as wet, low-lying areas, shady areas, or open fields, and determine the species best suited to and most likely to succeed in each area.

You’ll want to plant perennials, annuals, and biennials in your meadow, as well as a variety of native species that will provide color throughout the growing season. When in doubt, check to make sure the plants you’re choosing aren’t on your state’s noxious weed list.
